| The First Communications Step: Aspirations | ||
|
Q: How do we get started? A: Aspirations are positive "Want to" power. How do we start communicating in new ways and stick with it? For us, strategic communications outreach starts with aspirations . We have created strategies to uncover these because they are the positive energy to reach out.
Aspirations are ongoing opportunities to make a difference. To long for a better way, to set high aims, to soar like an Eagle.
Aspirations are more about what we want to do than what we must do. They take into account the joy of achievement, the reward of potential success, the joy of celebration.
Obligation is the drudgery of musts, oughts, shoulds and supposed to. Aspirations are about positives and potentials, about the opportunity to make a difference. We start every strategy session with aspirations. They make all the difference.
So…What does the church aspire to do? We can start with setting exciting goals, enjoying the thoughts of accomplishment; and continue by being gracious to ourselves; we can start and re-start as many times as necessary. Once we have gone through the aspirations strategic process, communications become part of the way things are made to happen. Who do we want to reach out to? What do people need? What can we say? How can we say it? What can we do for people? We can do this, even if there are just a few of us.
We have created strategies that focus on "Want to" power. |
