| Why do "Plans" end up gathering dust on a shelf?
We prefer the word "Planning". Planning has specific action goals in mind. It is aimed toward accomplishing important tasks that contribute to the community. Plans can be an end in themselves. Planning is for a purpose, not an end of purpose.
The communication outreach planning process includes goal setting, reviews of historical indicators of success and research into public perceptions. The process continues with "Action Planning" through an outreach committee. The committee can be just one person, if the tasks are taken one at time in small measure. The committee can be 10 people that accomplish more in a shorter period of time.
We help identify specific groups of people for outreach. This is work toward more than a general concept. The initial goal work begins the process and then the work becomes as specific as possible. Who or what is the concern? How will we know the situation has improved? The process continues with specific communications methods that will reach out in several different ways. It also includes, "Who" will carry the actions.
We believe in celebrating success. By establishing indicators of success we can enjoy the positive good will generated by accomplishment. This good will reinforces the organization, its people and ultimately its mission. We believe practical planning for communications outreach is critical for success; everything else is a shot in the dark. We don't do "Plans". We do action "Planning".
