Then join us and volunteer. Volunteer openings for just one hour a month, 5 hours a month and up to 20 hours a week. Opportunities abound and here are just a few examples:

CIC Library Volunteer:

Do you have an interest in children's books and literacy? Do you like a quiet environment?

Check-in books
Keep library organized
Other tasks may include:maintaining and developing the CIC Library-on-Wheels program, selecting new books for the library and brightening the library aesthetics.
Experience with computers and databases preferred
Organized, attention to detail
Knowledge and enjoyment of children's books a plus

The CIC library has over 1,500 multi-cultural books, available to families who already participate in CIC programs and also open to the community. Books include English, Spanish, Somali/English, Spanish/English, Arabic and Navajo.

PR Writer:

Write occasional press releases for our Reading is Fundamental (RIF) and other events and announcements, such as its graduation. This opportunity would consist of compiling a press list and writing press releases about 4 times a year.

Spanish Translator:

Translating marketing materials and newsletters from English to Spanish.

Somali Translator:

Translating marketing materials and newsletters from English to Somali.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) Volunteer:

Community Initiatives for Children (CIC) is looking for passionate individuals to assist with our Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program. RIF motivates children to read by providing economically disadvantaged families with quality new books and resources on family literacy.

Newsletter Volunteer:

Do you enjoy writing, editing and photography?

Community Initiatives for Children (CIC) is seeking an individual to assist writing a quarterly newsletter for our parents. In addition to writing, there will be some photography and interviewing necessary.

Ideally this individual will have previous writing expereince, will speak Spanish and have the ability to translate from English to Spanish.

Data Entry:

Data entry will vary, but generally will involve entering information, such as book inventory or attendance information into excel spreadsheets.

Fundraiser:

Call local organizations for donations

Assist in writing grants

Assist in researching funding opportunities
