Paradise Meadow Restoration

Picture

Goal:  $75,000

Restoration of human impacts, particularly in subalpine meadows, has been a recognized need in Mount Rainier National Park since the middle of the 20th century. Paradise Meadow, the most heavily visited area of the park, has been undergoing restoration since the 1980s. In 1989 a plan was developed that defined restoration priorities for the 918 social trails totaling 28 miles needing restoration.  New funding will help realize completion of this plan.

Project goals include: 1) Complete restoration in defined sections of Paradise; 2) Grow and install native forbs and grasses; 3) Educate students in plant biology, human impacts, revegetation, and greenhouse techniques; and 4) Foster increased stewardship through greater public knowledge of human impacts and restoration through broad volunteer participation.
